Home Acne Facials
What are homemade face masks and what are they used for?
When you are trying to rid your skin of acne, one great way to relieve pain, redness, itching and swelling is to apply a homemade facial mask or acne mask.
The types of homemade facial mask we are referring to are not the Halloween type scary homemade face mask children run around with, but the type of homemade face mask used as part of a facial cleansing treatment.
The skin is the largest human organ and can be the most ignored and abused. Performing a number of functions the skin is the transfer point for the discharge of toxins.
As we grow older both men and women become mindful of how their skin looks, and we question the loss of our flawless complexion.
We want skin to look young and healthy and will go to great lengths to protect it, as there are many foreign and harmful substances around us.
Spots and pimples that cover our skin often drive people, mostly women, to health spas for many types of beauty treatments.
Acne usually occurs around adolescence and may continue to adulthood and is usually caused by an increase of testosterone in teenagers, effecting both male and female alike.
Acne develops as a result of blockages in follicles and can affect any part of the body. The face, back and shoulders are noteworthy areas as these are highly visible and can be the cause for most embarrassment when affected.
There are many ways to treat these skin blemishes from prescribed medications or surgery to home made remedies for a quick and easy skin cleanser, usually a facial mask or scrub.
Facial masks applications are some of the oldest forms of cleansing treatments.
There are many different home facial treatments that you can use to fight acne. However, not just any ingredients will do. You will need the right mask to keep your skin from getting worse.
Depending on your skin type will dictate what sort of homemade face mask to use. As a rule avoid
facials with alcohol and other harsh astringents.
Popular ingredients for home made facial masks use baking soda, egg white and yogurt, although
even salt can be used.
A simple baking soda mask is really effective and will remove dirt, excess oil and
toxins, that appear on the surface of the skin.
Before you apply any mask, make sure that you properly clean your skin. You may
want to use a facial scrub to remove dead or flaky skin before the mask. Follow this
with clear warm water to remove the scrub and pat dry.
The consistency of the mask should resemble a thick paste which is applied to effected
areas on or around the face. Such masks can be applied to other areas of the body where
acne has attacked the skin. The mask should remain on for around 15 to 20 minutes.
A course of treatments from a professional aesthetician can very worth while. An
aesthetician will perform an extraction, removing different blockages manually. The
procedure will clear the skin pores of excess oil and cellular debris, in addition to cleaning
the skin before the procedure will start. This is a highly important part of the acne facial because
if the skin is not clean, the pores get filled up again with debris.
The acne facial treatment might also include facial massage and/or steam baths. Other products are usually included so that the skin can be hydrated, dead skin removed and the entire area treated, left silky smooth.
It is recommended that you continue facial treatments so that your skin remains clean and free of acne. However, a series of treatments from an aesthetician can prove very expensive.
Home made face masks on the other hand can prove effective and within most peoples budget. They can
be made from ingredients readily available in most high streets or local stores.
People with severe cases of acne should consult a dermatologist. A dermatologist will use very aggressive treatment in an attempt to prevent the progression of acne.
They will try and stop the spread and prevent scaring due to acne. Oral antibiotics and medications such as accutane may be used, Drainage techniques and surgical incision, know as acne surgery are extreme options.
There are recipes for all skin types from oily to acne prone, dry and sensitive skin. Then there are scrubs to remove dead skin, grim and dirt before using a facial mask.
A Homemade face mask treatment should follow this basic method for application:
1) Clean the face and neck with a good facial cleaner to remove any oily or dirty skin.
2) Massage the face with gentle ex foliating facial scrub around the nose and forehead. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
3) Steam Bath. Steam is used to soften the skin and open the pours.
4) The face mask. Apply the face mask for between 15-20 minutes after which again rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
5) Apply a mild moisturizer to finish.
As there are many receipts on the internet for home made face masks I won't list any here. However before using anything consult a specialist as to whether what you use will help rather then aggrivate your skin.
